Current Politics in the US

One cannot help but know the current politics in the US. It often dominants the Media. So one cannot help but have an opinion on it. Having done a large amount of research, the political arena of the US is complex.  It has a long history, much of which is positive. Unfortunately there is not space here to mention the negativity and scandals which have been associated with various politicians over the years. It is a system though, that seems to work. Governing such a large country is always going to be a challenge. The current President has a good reputation, and so far, seems to have stayed true to most of his campaign pledges. He fights for and represents equality. Equality – so what of women in US politics? Clearly, they do not have such a large part to play as men. Unfortunately, women do tend to miss out on the ‘big jobs’ as they are baring children and running a home. Those women that have made it into US politics seem to have done so with great success, most notably Hilary Clinton.  She is the closest thing the US has had to a female President. Do I think the US is ready for such a change? Probably. They could probably cope with it and there is a fair chance a woman might get elected in. Reality is most likely going to be that this won’t happen for a number of years and that respect the US will remain behind in the times compared to many other countries.  The reality is that whilst there is still a prominent First Lady, America continues to represent, and even, endorse a dutiful, devoted wife who serves the powerful, dominant husband. Old values that are not really with the times. I struggle to believe  that will be a day in the near future where there will be a powerful, assertive female running the United States, whilst her dutiful, caring husband takes up the role of ‘First Gentleman’ and runs around after her for all to see.
